Our tailored Foundation Course is perfect for those that are new to the world of detailing. During the day, our master detailers will teach you the basics from the wash stage through to decontamination and finishing stages. The day will also touch on the basics of machine polishing and the order in which products should be used in.
The course is held for a maximum of 10 People at a time at our state-of-the-art Detailing Academy in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire.
Here’s what is covered during the day, in a little more detail:
PRE- AND CONTACT WASH STAGES
As the contact wash stage is the most common stage in which swirl marks can occur, we will go through in depth the different ways in which we can pre-wash a vehicle in order to remove as much road grime as possible before actually making contact. Following that, we will show you the very effective two-bucket wash method and explain why it’s performed that way, while exploring the different wash mitts and what’s best suited where.
ENGINE BAY, SHUTS AND WHEELS
Cleaning your engine and shuts is not a job that will be done every time you clean your car, however, when done correctly, it is an aspect that will separate your detail from the next persons. We will take you through each stage of the degreasing, cleaning and dressing processes to help you tackle them with ease.
For the wheels, we will break down the three different sections of the wheels and which cleaners are relevant to the various styles and materials of wheels. This coupled with the correct selection of tools will make wheel cleaning a breeze. Wheels arches will also be covered at the same time.
DECONTAMINATION AND DRYING
In order to achieve the smooth-like-glass finish we aspire to, we will teach you the tricks of the trade in order to effectively decontaminate a vehicle. We will talk you through both our Iron Out contaminant remover and ObliTARate tar and glue remover and show you how and where to use them to full effect. The final stage to the decontamination process will be claying the paintwork safely to remove any above surface contamination that's left, with the use of a Clay Bar and Glide and showing you how to safely use a clay bar. Before we move onto polishing the vehicle we will look at how to safely dry the paintwork; understanding different techniques that can be used on different paint types and also the introduction of air to ensure all sitting water is expelled.
POLISHES, GLAZES AND PAINT CLEANSERS
We will help you to understand all the different types of paint polishes, glazes and cleansers and their best uses. We will cover the difference between our Tripple all-in-one polish, Ultra Glaze paint glaze and Rejuvenate paint cleanser products. We will look at the correct way to apply each of these using the traditional microfibre method and our dedicated Handi Puck system and the best times to use each one. You’ll also pick up helpful tips and tricks and ways in which you can use these products in places you wouldn't even expect, as well as the art of layering each product.
AN INTRODUCTION TO MACHINE POLISHING
During our Foundation course, we will introduce you to the world of machine polishing. We aim to take away any fears that you may have when it comes to using a machine polisher. This will be mainly based around using polishes, glazes and cleansers on a machine.
For a more in-depth look at machine polishing and its processes, we would recommend the Machine Polishing Course.
WAXES AND SEALANTS
We will take you through both natural carnauba waxes and more advanced cross-linking polymer paint sealants. We have a wide range of waxes that suit all different paint types and we will take you through each one’s individual practice. With the help of a the Waxmate applicator, we will look into the correct amount of wax to use and also the best method to apply and buff off. We will go through which paint colours are best suited to what product.
INTERIOR, GLASS AND FINISHING TOUCHES
To finish, we will cover the finishing touches needed to really make your detail pop. This will include the correct application of tyre cremes such as Satin, Revive and Dress plastic dressings and Mercury metal polish for exhaust tips or any brightwork. We will also teach you the art of smear-free window cleaning and our personal secrets into glass care using our world famous Crystal glass cleaner. Finally, we will finish with the basics of interior care and what you need to know in order to keep your cockpit in tip-top condition.
