The Open House

One Last Saturday

The UK show season was coming to an end. Before the cars disappeared for winter, we had time for one last get-together.

September usually marks a bit of a turning point in the UK car calendar.

The big summer weekends are behind us. The evenings start drawing in. And before long, many of the cars we've spent the year seeing at shows, meets and events will disappear into garages for winter.

Some will come back exactly as they left. Others will be sold and move on to new owners. And plenty will be pulled apart almost immediately, ready for another round of changes before next season.

So, before all of that happened, we wanted one more Saturday night together.

No huge production. No sprawling trade stand. No complicated agenda.

Just open the doors at Auto Finesse HQ, get some good cars together, put some food on and invite people down.

There was really only one thing we couldn't control: the British weather.

Somehow, it played ball.

OPEN HOUSE

As Saturday evening rolled around, the car park began filling with exactly the sort of mix we'd hoped for.

Cars we'd seen throughout the season parked alongside builds we'd never come across before. Friends we'd spent half the summer travelling around with turned up alongside people visiting AF HQ for the first time.

And that was really the point. Open House wasn't intended to become another traditional car show squeezed into an already packed calendar. We wanted something much simpler.

A place to bring the cars, catch up with people and enjoy one last evening while there was still enough daylight — and hopefully enough dry weather — to do it.

By the time the sun started dropping, HQ had taken on a completely different atmosphere.

Cars filled the yard. People moved between them.

Conversations spilled out of the building and across the car park. There was no rush to get anywhere and no programme telling anyone what they should be doing next. Just cars and people. Sometimes that's enough.

A SEASON WELL SPENT

For us, Open House also felt like a natural way to mark the end of another UK show season.

Auto Finesse has always existed around more than the products sitting on a shelf.

The cars, the builds, the journeys, the events and the people surrounding them are a massive part of why we still do this after more than 25 years.

And while the way we approach events continues to evolve, getting the right people and the right cars together still matters to us.

Perhaps more than ever.

Open House reminded us that it doesn't always need to be bigger.

It just needs to be good.

UNTIL NEXT TIME

By the end of the evening the light had gone, the temperature had dropped and eventually the last cars began making their way out of the gates.

For some, that'll probably be their final proper outing of 2026.

Soon the covers will go on, the wheels will come off and the winter rebuilds will begin.

We'll be doing exactly the same with a few of ours.

But for one last dry Saturday evening in September, none of that mattered.

The doors were open.

The car park was full.

And the UK season wasn't quite finished yet.

Thanks to everyone who brought a car, made the journey or simply came down and spent the evening with us. We'll do it again.
