Metal Polish
Just like a polishes and compounds for paintwork, metal polishes are detailing and valeting products designed to take away a microscopic part of the top layer, levelling down light scratches and swirls. In the case of a metal polish though, the main purpose is to remove this micro layer, along with any tarnishing and contaminants, to reveal the bare metal underneath. In this way it’s also a cleaning product as well as a polish, making them ideal for cleaning away oxidation and fuel stains on exhaust pipes, as well as bringing new life to tired brightwork trim and chrome engine parts.
Despite containing relatively coarse abrasives, metal polishes are ideal for use by hand, although they can also be applied using a machine polisher for bigger and tougher jobs. Most importantly though, these car care essentials are only designed to be used on bare metal surfaces, and many parts like wheel lips and chrome trim that appear to be polished metal are actually lacquered for longevity. In these cases Tripple All-in-One Polish is a great substitute for cleaning, refining and bringing back the shine.
Always test a small area first, if the polish reacts and turns black on your
Microfibre Applicator or
Work Cloth, then you are polishing bare metal, and using a metal polish is the best way to clean and bring back the lustre to the surface.
