Porsche 993
There are certain cars that just belong in a collection, and for us, an air-cooled Porsche was always one of them.
We’ve had plenty of Porsches through the AF fleet over the years, but we wanted something from the classic era. Something that still felt properly analogue, but was usable enough that we could actually get out and enjoy it.

Cars & Coffee on a Sunday morning. Weekend tours. Road trips. Shows. General car activities where you want something special, without needing a support vehicle following you around.
That search eventually led us to this — a Zenith Blue Porsche 993 Carrera 2S.
And it ticked pretty much every box.

The 993 Carrera 2S is already a pretty special thing.
You get that unmistakable wide-body 993 shape, rear-wheel drive and, importantly for us, this one has a manual gearbox.
But ours has a few extra details that make it even more interesting. It wears the factory-style Aero Kit along with the incredibly distinctive Turbo S-style rear quarter vents, giving it a much more aggressive profile without losing the classic lines of the 993. Then there’s the colour.
Zenith Blue is pure '90s Porsche. Depending on the light it can go from a deep blue into an almost purple tone, and combined with the wide body and Aero Kit, it gives the car a presence completely different to anything modern. Exactly what we wanted.

The attraction of the 993 wasn't about outright performance.
Modern cars are faster. Considerably faster.
But that's completely missing the point.
The naturally aspirated air-cooled flat-six, manual gearbox and rear-wheel-drive chassis give you something that has slowly disappeared from modern performance cars — that raw mechanical connection between you and the car.
Everything feels direct.
You sit low, the car feels tiny around you and there's a constant sense of what's happening underneath it. On the right road it genuinely feels like a big go-kart.
You don't need ridiculous speeds to enjoy it either.
That's exactly why we wanted the Carrera 2S rather than building something that would spend most of its life sitting in the workshop looking pretty.
This was always supposed to be driven.

We didn't want to mess with the formula too much, but we did want to sharpen it up and put our own stamp on it.
The suspension was upgraded to KW Clubsport 3-way coilovers, giving the chassis a much more focused feel while allowing us to get the stance exactly where we wanted it.
Then came the wheels.
A set of period-perfect Kinesis split rims, with the centres colour-matched in Zenith Blue.
And that was the moment the whole car came together. Wide-body 993. Aero Kit. Turbo S vents. Zenith Blue paint. Colour-matched Kinesis wheels sitting perfectly over the arches.
It looks like something that should be parked outside a Miami hotel in 1997.
And we absolutely love it for that.
This isn't the fastest Porsche in the AF fleet, nor is it trying to be. It's the one you grab the keys to when the weather is good, you've got somewhere to be and you're deliberately looking for the longest possible route to get there.
A proper manual, naturally aspirated, rear-wheel-drive, air-cooled Porsche.
Sometimes the old stuff really is better.
