Caramics Gloss Enhancer is the ultimate professional finishing spray and quick detailer engineered to add acres of shine and prolong the life and performance of your ceramic coatings.
A quick and user-friendly maintenance top up for any vehicle with a previously-applied coating, this advanced SiO2-infused formula quickly cuts through water spots, fingerprints and greasy films, leaving behind nothing but a slick, shiny and protected finish. And all this with nothing more than a light spritz and a wipe on paintwork, gloss plastics wheels and vinyl wraps.
Developed to perfectly complement our Caramics Protection Kits - more specifically our Caramics Paintwork Protection Kit and Caramics Wheel Protection Kit - during routine maintenance, Caramics Gloss Enhancer not only actively strengthens any SiO2 coating by adding an additional protective layer for the best possible durability, added protection and even more extreme water behaviour. But this next-generation finisher is powerful enough to install a ceramic coating on unprotected surfaces as a stand-alone detailing and valeting product. This makes Caramics Gloss Enhancer capable of keeping any vehicle looking better for longer.
SiO2-based ceramic coatings utilise the long-lasting and extreme protective qualities of silicon dioxide, more commonly known as silica or quartz. This natural compound makes up the main ingredient in glass itself and chemically bonds on a molecular level to become an integral part of the top layer of vehicle surfaces. The result is a tough, tight-knit barrier of SiO2 molecules that’s impermeable to moisture, particulate grime and sticky contamination. By creating a perfectly smooth surface that contamination cannot cling on to, water and grime will slide off easily or simply sit on top of the ceramic layer, far away from the most sensitive, scratchable surfaces. This not only aids future maintenance with the most advanced easy-clean properties but, due to the fact that the chemically bonded SiO2 layer is extremely difficult to remove during day-to-day driving, offers the most durable protection and long-lasting performance.
What’s equally important is how SiO2 can add almost unbelievable shine by levelling the optical finish of the surface. For sections such as paintwork, vinyl and plastics, where added gloss is always desirable, the ceramic layer irons out small defects in the surface to effectively bounce light back to the eye more uniformly. This lack of light diffraction makes the surface appear to be significantly deeper and glossier. Caramics Gloss Enhancer instantly bonds to all surfaces - including on top of other ceramic coatings – and with this ultra-concentrated solution, a light spritz is all you need. For for the very best results, we recommend using Caramics Gloss Enhancer for all final finishing tasks with an ultra-soft premium cloth, such as our high GSM Primo Plush or Ultra Plush Microfibre Towels.
Caramics Gloss Enhancer is available in 500ml and 1-Litre bottles and forms a part of our specialist Caramics Support Range, which also includes our Caramics Enhancing Shampoo and Caramics Glass Cleaner. Ensure vehicle is clean, dry and free of contamination. After cleaning your wheels first, we recommend carrying out the wash stages thoroughly and safely to ensure that no swirl marks or other defects are inflicted. Always use products that will not degrade your coatings, performing an effective pre-wash using a suitable, safe pre-cleaner, such as Citrus Power Bug & Grime Remover or Dynamite Traffic Film Remover, followed by Avalanche Snow Foam and a two-bucket wash using Lather Car Shampoo, or Caramics Enhancing Shampoo. If decontamination and paint correction is necessary (on a vehicle without a previously-applied ceramic coating), we recommend carrying out these stages before applying Caramics Gloss Enhancer, or our Caramics Paintwork Protection Kit to avoid locking in defects. For maintenance washes and prolonging the life and performance of your Si02 coating, you can proceeded to using Caramics Gloss Enhancer after thoroughly drying the vehicle.
Working on a single panel at a time, spritz a small amount onto a fresh microfibre cloth and spread over the surface to ensure even coverage. A little always goes a long way here, there’s no need to saturate the surface, just a light mist of this product is enough to install the ceramic coating over the entire area.
Use a second, fresh dry microfibre cloth to buff to a high gloss shine.
Can this product be used on a vehicle with no ceramic coating?
Yes. While all of our Caramics support products – including Caramics Enhancing Shampoo, Caramics Gloss Enhancer and Caramics Glass Cleaner – have been specifically engineered to prolong to the life and performance of our range of Caramics Protection Kits during routine maintenance, they can install an Si02 (silica) layer of protection on their own. As with all ceramic coatings, this will offer enhanced water behaviour, more gloss (on paintwork, vinyl and gloss plastics) and make your vehicle much easier to clean the next time around. The difference is that, as stand alone products, they will not provide the 12-months of durability offered by our flagship Caramics Protection Kits. Instead they’ve been designed as quick and easy-to-use top up products that are ideal for getting maximum durability, increased gloss and optimal performance on vehicles with a silica-based coating already present. For a full rundown of how all of our Caramics support products can be used to their best, and for some top tips on application, check out our full guide – Maintain And Enhance Your Ceramic Coatings In Under An Hour.
Do I need to polish my vehicle before applying ceramic protection?
All silica or quartz-based ceramic coatings (such as those found in our products Ceramic Spray Wax, Aqua Coat Hydrophobic Rinse Aid, Lavish Ceramic Foam, Caramics Gloss Enhancer, Caramics Enhancing Shampoo, Wash 'n' Gloss, and our flagship Caramics Protection Kits), use a layer of chemically bonded silicon dioxide (SiO2) to create a barrier between the surface and the elements that’s impermeable to water and only possible to remove by abrasion. In all their forms, and regardless of their durability, ceramic coatings are intended to add the hardiest protection to surfaces and, although they’re also designed to level the optical finish of paintwork and vinyl (including paint and powdercoat on wheels) - allowing light to bounce back to the eye more uniformly to make the finish appear deeper and glossier - the glass-like layer they install is not intended to hide underlying paint defects. So, when it comes to full paint decontamination and paint correction, the application of coating will still be effective with regards to physical protection, gloss and water beading without carrying out these processes, but you will not correct or obscure any defects already in the paintwork. This is why we always recommend carrying out any swirl mark or other defect removal, along with surface cleansing, prior to application of any protection layer (ceramic, wax or sealant) if you’re not completely happy with the condition of your paintwork. Especially when using a product intended for the most extreme durability such as our Caramics Paintwork Protection Kit, which installs a coating that lasts for up to a year. For maintenance washes, where SiO2 products are used to top up previously applied ceramic protection, we would assume that any paint correction necessary would have been carried out before the initial application of the coating. For preparing the surface for your coating, it's essential to use a product that doesn't contain waxes or fillers that will block the adhesion of the coating, such as our Revitalise System V2 Compounds and One Step All-in-One Compound. For the full rundown on the science of ceramic coatings and how they work see our article – What Difference Does A Ceramic Coating Actually Make.
What is the difference between Caramics Gloss Enhancer and Glisten Spray Wax?
Although both are quick and easy-to-use finishing sprays that will install or top up hydrophobic protection layers (along with adding plenty of added gloss), and both are designed for use on clean paintwork and vinyl wraps, Caramics Gloss Enhancer and Glisten Spray Wax have a very different chemical makeup. Which one you choose will always depend on the type of protection you’re looking for because Glisten is a wax-based product, which leaves behind a layer of carnauba protection, and Caramics Gloss Enhancer is a Si02-based formula which leaves behind a layer of ceramic protection. With that in mind, while both these products can be used as stand-alone products to add protection, Caramics Gloss Enhancer has been more specifically developed to prolong the life and the performance of vehicles with a previously applied silica-based ceramic coating - such as the 12-month Si02 coating used in our Caramics Paintwork Protection Kit - adding even more gloss along the way. This product is not designed for use over a previously-applied wax because the protection layer on the surface will essentially block the chemical bonding process required for a the Si02 coating to adhere. Glisten Spray Wax however, can be used to add protection and gloss (for up to 4-weeks), and to prolong the life and performance of hard wax layers. While Glisten can also be used on top of a ceramic coating - because a wax can bond to a cured Si02 barrier layer (just not the other way around) - this is only applicable if you’re not looking to top up the ceramic layer with another Si02-based product in the future, and you simply prefer the trademark ‘warm’ finish offered by a wax. For the most part though, Glisten should be used on paintwork for wax-based protection, and Caramics Gloss Enhancer on vehicles with ceramic protection.
What cleaning and polishing products are best to use with a ceramic coating?
The great thing about silica-based (SiO2) ceramic coatings is that they’re specifically developed to help your vehicle look better for longer. The hardy protection layer they install is essentially chemically bonded silicon dioxide, which is like glass, so it smooths the surfaces enough to prevent water molecules and grime from bonding. Regardless of application to paint, glass, vinyl or any other exterior surface, this is why they bead to the extreme and offer the longest lasting protection of any product. What’s most important here is that grime will sit on top of the ceramic layer rather than sticking, and this makes cleaning easier. But it’s still important to carry out safe maintenance to stop heavy grit and grime from being rubbed in and abrading the coating and the paintwork, causing the infliction of defects. Using coating-friendly pre-wash products, such as Citrus Power Bug and Grime Remover and Avalanche Snow Foam will also prevent damage to coatings because they don’t contain harsh acidic or alkaline cleaning agents that may etch into the top layer. It’s the same story for the shampoo you use in your two-bucket wash. Lather Car Shampoo is a great choice as it will never damage previously-applied coatings, but alternatively you can use Wash 'N' Gloss Car Shampoo or our Caramics Enhancing Shampoo to actively top-up and prolong the life and performance of your SiO2 coating as you wash paintwork, glass and all other exterior surfaces. Other products that are great for topping up during routine maintenance include Aqua Coat Hydrophobic Rinse Aid, Lavish Ceramic Foam, Caramics Gloss Enhancer, Caramics Glass Cleaner and Ceramic Spray Wax. When it comes to paint correction, all you have to remember is that Si02 coatings have to be allowed to chemically bond to the topcoat or lacquer layer, so it’s crucial to use a compound or a polish that doesn’t contain any waxes or fillers, because these extra layers will block the chemical bonding process. For paint correction, polishing and refinement before adding a coating, we’d recommend using products that only reveal a true finish, such as One Step All-in-One Compound, or our Revitalise System V2 Compounds (which are also available separately). Don’t forget that SiO2 coatings are extremely durable and can only be fully removed through abrasion, this means that polishing your vehicle using any abrasive after applying a ceramic coating will remove the Si02 layer, meaning that reapplication of protection will be required after you polish.
